Big RAM Bleat – June 2023

Hello RAMs,

We have reached the 6th month and summer will happen halfway through. There are two important things to report:

#1. Bob Mott is relinquishing his duties in leading both the Hiking Group and the Programs committee. To say he will be missed is an extreme understatement. He has been conscientious, considerate, and foresighted. His hiking stamina is astonishing. His service as our speaker scheduler has been for over 15 years. Russ Bik has agreed to step up as our new HikeMaster. For over a year, Russ has been documenting our hikes and created a special website, see: https://www.ramhikes.org/5-20- 23 and https://www.ramhikes.org/ . We are in the process of appointing a replacement on the Program side. I have been consulting with Alan Henderson on this issue.

#2. We recognized the wonderful support of the Madonna Inn for over more than 30 years. Extracting from our invitation to the INN:

As you no doubt know, the RAM club has been meeting at the Madonna Inn since March 20, 1990. From the founding, we have enjoyed the strong support from the Inn, particularly Alex in the earliest days. As a result, we have developed a special fondness for the Inn and we are grateful for the ongoing assistance from your staff. It feels like home to us, each time we meet.

The recognition was done at a brief ceremony to start our May 25th Coffee Club. Attending for Madonna Inn were the CEO and Manager Connie Pierce [Alex and Phyllis’s daughter], and her husband Clint (who we already know). While we had invited Phyllis Madonna, she could not attend. Phyllis had a friend and neighbor Cheri Humphrey as a stand in. Alan Henderson gave a short history (initially drafted by Bob Mott who could not attend), emphasizing the Madonna involvement.

The RAMs presented Connie with a Pink African Violet for Phyllis. It was reported that Phyllis was very grateful, and Cheri forwarded this Picture of Phyllis and the pink flower:
